Quickstart

There are three ways to connect. Pick the one that fits your setup.

Option 1: Hosted server (recommended)

No installation needed. Connect directly to the hosted endpoint.

This is the fastest way to get started. Your MCP client connects to the server, the OAuth flow runs, you enter your Monei API key, and you are done.

The hosted server runs in sandbox mode by default. To use real funds, set your environment to live when self-hosting, or use your live API key when authenticating on the hosted server.

Option 2: Run with npx

If you prefer to run the server locally:

MONEI_API_KEY=your_api_key npx @mrmonei/mcp-server

The server starts on port 3000 by default. Point your MCP client at http://localhost:3000/sse.

Option 3: Install globally

npm install -g @mrmonei/mcp-server
MONEI_API_KEY=your_api_key monei-mcp

Claude Desktop setup

Add this to your Claude Desktop config file:

Restart Claude Desktop after saving. The Monei tools will appear in the tools panel.

Getting your API key

Sign up at monei.cc
Go to Settings then API Keys
Generate a new key and copy it

Your API key has full access to your Monei account. Keep it private and never commit it to a public repository.

Test the connection

Once connected, try asking your AI client:

“What is my Monei wallet balance?”

If everything is set up correctly, you will get your NGN balance and portfolio overview back immediately.
