The Monei MCP server is a hosted implementation of the Model Context Protocol that gives AI agents direct access to Monei’s payment infrastructure. Any MCP compatible client like Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, or your own agent can connect to the server and immediately start moving money, paying bills, sending crypto, and managing wallets through natural language.

What it powers

Mr. Monei is the AI financial agent built on top of the Monei MCP server. It is live on Claude and ChatGPT today, and every financial action it performs goes through the same MCP server you are reading about now. When a user tells Mr. Monei to sell USDT and send the naira to their bank account, the MCP server handles the offramp quote, the bank verification, and the settlement initiation, all as tool calls. You can build the same kind of agent using the exact same server.

Transport and auth

The server runs over SSE (Server-Sent Events) and uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE for authentication. Your API key is validated against the Monei backend at auth time if the key is wrong, you will know immediately before any token is issued. Tokens expire after one hour. Your MCP client handles re-authentication automatically.
