# Sandbox

> Test your integration without moving real money

The Monei MCP server supports two environments, sandbox for development and testing, and live for production.

## Environments

## How to switch

The environment is determined by your API key and the `MONEI_ENV` variable when self-hosting.

On the hosted server at `mcp.monei.cc`, use your sandbox API key for testing and your live key for production. The server detects which environment to use based on the key.

When self-hosting, set the environment explicitly:

MONEI_ENV=sandbox MONEI_API_KEY=your_sandbox_key npx @mrmonei/mcp-server

# Live
MONEI_ENV=live MONEI_API_KEY=your_live_key npx @mrmonei/mcp-server
```

## Getting sandbox credentials

1. Sign up at [monei.cc](https://monei.cc)
2. Go to Settings then API Keys
3. Generate a sandbox key

Sandbox keys are prefixed differently from live keys so you can tell them apart at a glance.

## What works in sandbox

All 22 tools are available in sandbox mode. Transactions are simulated, no real money moves, no real airtime is purchased, no real bank transfers are initiated.

Use sandbox to build and test your full integration before switching to live.
